From Fear to Faith: Faith-Filled Guide to Decision Making (When Your Prayer Journal Could Use Some Direction)

Have you ever prayed so hard about a decision that you're pretty sure God's voicemail is full? 😅 Maybe you've written your pros and cons list, consulted your best friend, your mom AND, your pastor... and you're still stuck? Don't worry, you're in good company – even Moses tried to negotiate his way out of his calling! (Spoiler alert: God wasn't having it.)

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind." (2 Timothy 1:7)

Let's get real for a moment. Fear in decision-making usually looks like:

  • "What if I make the wrong choice?"

  • "But God, are you SURE about this?"

  • "Can I get that in writing, Lord?" 😉

Here's the truth: Sometimes what we call fear is actually faith getting stronger. Just like those pushups at the gym (you know, the ones we're all "planning" to do), our faith muscles grow when they're challenged.

Let me share a simple framework I use with my coaching clients:

Pause and Pray

  • Take 5 minutes of quiet (yes, it might feel scary!)

  • Write down your fears without judgment

  • Remember who God says you are

Reflect on Truth

  • What does Scripture say about your situation?

  • Review past victories (yes, write them down!)

  • Notice God's character in your circumstance

Ask for Wisdom

  • Be specific in your prayers

  • Seek godly counsel

  • Listen for that still, small voice

Next Step

  • What's the smallest possible action you can take?

  • Choose progress over perfection

  • Trust that God can redirect if needed

Here's a story from my coaching practice (names changed for privacy):

Ashley was convinced God wanted her to take a specific job. She prayed, fasted, and got all the confirmations. Then the job fell through. Plot twist: the skills she gained while preparing for that position led her to an even better opportunity she wouldn't have been qualified for otherwise.

Sometimes God's "no" is actually a "not this way" or "not yet." His GPS is way better than ours!

Simple Decision Check List:

  1. Does it align with God's Word?

  2. Will it help me love God and others better?

  3. Does it bring peace (even if it's scary)?

  4. Is it wise stewardship?

While these tools will help you start making faith-filled decisions, I've seen in my coaching practice how transformative it can be to have guided support in this journey. In our coaching sessions, we dive deeper into:

  • Building unshakeable faith-based confidence

  • Creating sustainable decision-making systems

  • Developing leadership through faith

  • Finding clarity in God's calling
