Don't Let Doubt Be a Dream Killer

”The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” (Deuteronomy 31:8)

Doubt is natural and can even be a healthy signal to proceed thoughtfully. However, it should never become the obstacle that prevents you from stepping into your calling. Navigating doubt is essential to fulfilling your God-given purpose. This month, we have some tips from the ICCA (International Christian Coaching Association) team and a talk by Jason VanRuler on how to not let your doubt kill your dreams.

The following are some helpful mindset shifts to help you conquer doubt:

Reframe Doubt as an Opportunity to Strengthen Your Faith

Doubt doesn’t mean stop—it means pause, pray, and proceed with trust in God. Use uncertainty as a moment to reaffirm your calling and lean on Him.

Break Big Goals Into Manageable Steps

Overwhelm often fuels doubt. Combat this by creating small, actionable steps toward your goal. Each completed step builds confidence and reduces the power of doubt.

Seek Godly Counsel and Support

Surround yourself with mentors, colleagues, or a coach who can offer wisdom and encouragement. Sometimes, doubt is quieted by the voices of those who believe in your potential. Practical Tip: Join a mastermind group or find an accountability partner to help you stay focused.

Look to Scripture for Encouragement

The Bible is full of stories where doubt was present, but faith prevailed. Meditate on examples like Moses, who doubted his ability to lead, or Peter, who doubted as he walked on water. Consider memorizing and reciting a verse to support your mindset, such as 2 Timothy 1:7, which reads, “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.”

Challenge the Accuracy of Your Doubts

Doubt often thrives on assumptions and worst-case scenarios. Take time to evaluate whether your fears are rooted in reality or a projection of insecurity.

Focus on Your Calling, Not Perfection

Perfectionism can amplify doubt, leading to paralysis. Remember, God calls you to faithfulness, not flawlessness. Progress, not perfection, is the goal.

Jason VanRuler shares some tips about staying emotionally healthy and moving forward in faith when we experience doubt. He explains, “doubt is often a signal to be careful because the thing you are about to do is important to you.

Doubt is not your enemy! It’s an opportunity to deepen your trust in God, refine your focus, and take bold steps toward your dream. There is power in action steps—apply them to your own journey!
